Ch-1 The Fish Tale

This chapter implements mathematics in real-life situations by shapes, fundamental mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), estimation, movement, comparisons, loans, etc., and gives a chance to revise mathematical concepts interestingly learnt in earlier classes.

Haiku

"A three-line poem is known as Haiku."

This kind of poem on nature is famous in Japan. Here are a few examples,

Poem-1

Deep under the sea
See the lovely coloured fish
Swimming peacefully

Meaning:

Lovely fish are swimming in the deep sea without any noise

Poem-2

The lake, calm, smooth, still
A fish jumps up and returns
Ripples shake the lake

Meaning:

In a peaceful lake,  a fish jumps up and goes back into the water making ripples in the water.

How to draw a fish on paper

Shapes used by children to draw a fish picture,

rectangles, triangles, and circles, etc.

 

 

Examples,

Fish vs Whale

  • Whales are different from fish.
  • Whales are mammals like cows and humans.
  • Whales have lungs to breathe but fish have gills to breathe.
  • Whales breathe their noses and breathe with air.
  • but fish have no noses but they breathe water through their mouth and pass through their gills
  • Whales give birth to babies, but fish lay eggs.
  • The whale shark fish is big and looks dangerous but they are generous and harmless and do not attack humans.
  • Whales may be 18 m long, approximately the sum of the heights of 12 children
  • A whale may weigh about 16000kg

In Hindi, fish is known as Meen (मीन, मछली)

*Meenakshi is a girl's name. Meenakshi means a girl having fish-shaped eyes
